Unite The Union
Services. Fire Safety Remediation
Our initial survey at Unite the Union’s offices in Leeds city centre was carried out at a time when the building had been fully stripped back, leaving only the main structural walls and floors. This meant all existing structural fire protection was exposed and available for sampling.
One of the key issues identified at this stage was delaminating of fire protecting intumescent paint which we confirmed was due to the wrong specification of paint being used for the atmospheric conditions, particularly in the basement car park.
As work progressed, we oversaw installation work, checked the compliance of all installations and tested penetrations of cables and pipework through compartment walls and floors, cable trays and trunking boxes and fire doors.
Having been involved on-site since the initial survey stage, our surveyors and installers knew the building very well and could liaise with designers, contractors and stakeholders for a cohesive approach to ensure the fire strategy was implemented effectively and in the most cost-efficient way. Acting as fire safety consultants, we were able to make sure all those on site were aware of their compliance obligations and that any issues were resolved quickly whilst contractors were still on site.
Our FIRAS accredited installers and supervisors ensured all work was carried out to manufacturer instructions and that materials used were of the correct specification for the building. We made sure all construction work adhered to the fire strategy and were able to verify the passive fire protection of the building on completion.
